PRETORIA � The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Khehla John Sitole has commended the swift arrest of seven men suspected to be involved in a cash-in-transit robbery that occurred in Kliprivier, south of Johannesburg on 05 September 2019.

It is reported that yesterday at about 17:00, a group of suspects attacked a cash van in Kliprivier and used explosives to blow it up. They fled the scene with undisclosed amount of money.

The National Task Team together with Ekurhuleni Metro Police and Magma Investigations followed up on information received from National Crime Intelligence to track and arrest the suspects. Seven suspects aged between 35 and 54 were arrested in GaMmakau, Akasia, Ennerdale, Palm Ridge and Katlehong within a day after the alleged CIT robbery. During the arrest, two rifles with ammunition, a signal jammer and a luxury SUV were recovered. The SUV was reported stolen in Akasia in last month.

The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Khehla John Sitole has commended the members involved for implementing the 72-Hour Activation plan and arresting the suspects within 24 hours. “I am pleased that members continue to arrest perpetrators these heinous crimes. Therefore alleviating the fear that these crimes seek to instil in our communities as we continue to stamp the authority of the State”, said General Sitole.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation has taken over the case for further investigation. The suspects will be appearing in various courts next week facing charges of armed robbery, possession of signal jammer, possession of stolen vehicle and possession prohibited firearms.
