News: Two (2) of four dangerous escapees are back to the police cells

WHITTLESEA – A 24 hour intense operation led by SAPS and Crime Intelligence after the escape of four (4) awaiting trial prisoners yesterday 11 March 2020, yielded positive results as two of the four suspects were rearrested today.

The two escapees aged 28 and 31 escaped from lawful custody together with the other two yesterday at Whittlesea Police Station, near Komani.

According to the report, on realizing that chances of a successful escape were very limited, one of the suspects Odwa Siqanqalala 28, surrendered himself to the police in the morning and the police managed to recover the firearm he had robbed during his escape. Later in the day Mzuvukile Mzimkulu 31, was also arrested at Sasa location. Investigation continues to establish the circumstances, motive for their escape and the location of the remaining two suspects who are still on the run.

The members of the community are once again warned not to attempt to apprehend these criminals as they are believed to be very dangerous and armed.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has expressed gratitude to the SAPS operatives who sacrificed their sleep to protect innocent lives from the daring criminals. “This is just the beginning of the greater work that my operational members will do to bring back the criminals where they belong – behind bars”. General Ntshinga vowed. She further thanked the community for their commendable response and support by providing the information that served to isolate the suspects from responsible citizens.
