Department officials spend a day with girls from disadvantaged families

As part of Women’s month activities, the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima under the executive leadership of MEC Galaletsang Gaolaolwe hosted young girls from previously disadvantaged local schools, to expose them to the actual work environment and programmes offered by the Department.

The Program is known as the Bring a girl-child to work campaign and spearheaded by the National Ministry of Women.

At least 10 girls aged 14-18 years from Dihatshwane combined school in Mahikeng and Tlamelang (special) school in Gelukspan spent a day with officials from various sections in the department learning about the core business of the department. The girls were chosen from historically disadvantaged communities in these villages and on merit of their excellent academic performance at school.

Ms. Conny Mogapi who is a leaner from Dihatshwane primary school could not hold her tears of excitement in terms of the knowledge gained during the day “I have learnt about how media & communication works practically and how to take official pictures for any event in preparing for a media statement she said”.

The Department handed over participatory certificate to the Girls as a token of appreciation and commitment to support the programme on annual basis. “This year marks the beginning of bigger programmes focusing on women empowerment and initiatives which will ignite the interest of the Girl-Child for career path “charged the MEC.
