Ntambanana murderer sentenced to life term

Ngwelezane Regional Court convicted and sentenced Mgciniseni Gcina Xaba (27) also known as Mswenya to life imprisonment for the murder of Doris Saleleni Ngema (45) in February 2018.

On 25 February 2018, four armed males accosted Ngema at her home in Ntuzuma Reserve, Ntambanana. She was accused by one of the armed males of reporting him to local anti-crime community members for his criminal deeds.

They fatally shot at Ngema and robbed the family members of their cellphones. A case of murder and robbery was opened at Ntambanana police station for investigation. A month later, police arrested Gcina and he was found with a firearm in his possession.

The firearm was taken for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in Ngema’s death and the results positively linked him to the murder. He made several court appearances and he was in custody throughout the trial.

On 20 March 2019, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, nine years imprisonment for possession of an unlicensed firearm and five years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
