EASTERN CAPE – On 1 April 2021, An-nei Stumkie (36) was sentenced in the Hankey Court for alleged charges of fraud.
The sentencing emanates from her arrest by Serious Commercial crime Investigation team of Gqeberha on 23 December 2019 where she is also said to have made her first appearance at Hankey Magistrate Court as well and got released on warning.
It is alleged that Stumkie, between 24 June 2016 and January 2019 misappropriated funds of Nuwelande farm while she was employed as the Administration Clerk of the company.
It is reported that Stumkie substituted the company creditors’ bank account numbers with her own. She would inflate claims and once the money was deposited into her account she would pay the creditors what was due to them and keep the difference for herself.
It is further alleged that she also inflated the farm workers’ salaries and orchestrated the deposit of their salaries into her bank account where she would transfer what was due to the workers and remained with the difference.
The fraudulent conducts of Stumkie prejudiced the Nuwelande Farm cash to the value of R6 624 949-47.
Stumkie was given 8 years direct imprisonment sentence for 71 counts of Fraud on the1st of April 2021 at Hankey Regional Court.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya commended the Gqeberha Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team for the success.
