One suspect arrested while manhunt launched for suspects in a separate incident

POLOKWANE – A 48-year-old Taxi owner was arrested for attempted murder in the Mokwakwaila Policing area outside Tzaneen. It is alleged that, in the early hours of Friday, 27 March 2020 at about at 02:00, at Senakwe village, a woman aged 53 who is a taxi owner was attacked while sleeping with her niece aged 23 by a group of armed suspects, amongst them, was a well-known former member of a taxi association. During this incident, the suspects robbed the victim (53) of cash and she was shot multiple times before they fled the scene while the niece escaped unharmed.

The Police were notified and responded swiftly. The SAPS Tzaneen Cluster Task Team took over the matter and the initial investigations and manhunt ensued until the suspect was arrested within a short space of time.

The victim is still recuperating at the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect is still being profiled and he may be linked to more similar incidents of crimes in the area. He will be charged with attempted murder and he will appear before the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 30 March 2020.

Meanwhile, the Police in Bolobedu outside Tzaneen have launched a massive manhunt for the suspects involved in another separate taxi related killing which occurred last night, 28 March 2020 at about 18:30, along the gravel road between Bochabelo and ga-Nakampe villages.

During this incident, it is alleged that a 55-year-old Judas Moremi 55, a taxi owner from ga-Boqa village in the Bolobedu area was found dead in his car with multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body sitting in the driver seat of his car that was also having a number of bullets holes.

The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but taxi violence may not be ruled out.
