KHAYELITSHA The perseverance of members attached to Operation Lockdown led to the arrest of two suspects aged 25 and 42 on charges of housebreaking and theft in Khayelitsha.

On 03 November 2019, a housebreaking and theft was perpetrated at premises in Uba Street, Mandalay. Information was followed up about two suspects who arrived at the premises with a white Toyota Hilux with registration number CA 904992. These suspects got access by breaking the door and they stole a flat screen plasma television, speakers, amplifier, printer and a laptop and fled the scene in the direction of Khayelitsha. The members received also CCTV footage about the incident and activated all their informers.

On 05 November 2019, the members received information about the whereabouts of the vehicle, that it was seen parked at a shopping mall in Khayelitsha. They immediately followed it up and found the car and the driver who confessed and led the members to where the items were offloaded and the whereabouts of the other suspect. The stolen items were found at premises in Dikinyeka Street, Khayelitsha.

The suspects were arrested and they are expected to make a court appearance in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on charges of housebreaking and theft.

In an unrelated incident the members of Operation Lockdown arrested two suspects aged 29 and 30 who were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Sine Road, Lingelethu West in Khayelitsha yesterday. The members were busy conducting a stop and search operation in the area when they spotted a suspicious vehicle occupied by two unknown men. A further search in the vehicle was conducted and a 9mm Norinco pistol was seized.

Both suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges once charged.
