The multi-disciplinary operation started the previous day with the raiding of wanted suspects, especially those who have committed crime against women and children. Most of the suspects who thought they had evaded the law were hunted down and arrested in various parts of Gauteng.

The operation today focused on Langlaagte and Riverlea where illegal mining and dealing in drugs is rife. The suspects fled the scene, abandoning the equipment as the police were approaching.

Police then raided an Auto Spares in Mayfair, Johannesburg, where they discovered engines and other parts of cars that were reported stolen. The owner who was arrested was also found to have contravened the Second-Hand Goods Act.

Four cars were impounded during a roadblock in Langlaagte after they were found to have been tampered with, while traffic fines of more than R5000 were issued. Illegal liquor outlets were closed down and liquor confiscated during the raid.

Operation O Kae Molao will continue in Gauteng until the crime is brought to its lowest level. The arrested suspects will appear at various Magistrate’s Courts across the Province in due course.
