Operation Vhuthu Hawe, second-hand goods and non-ferrous metals inspected

CRADOCK – On 19 April 2021, a Provincial Office Task Team Operation was conducted in the Cradock policing precinct whereby second- hand dealers were visited and inspected, to ensure compliance with the Second-Hand Goods Act, 2009 (Act 6/2009).

The operation included visits to furniture shops, vehicles were inspected for possible stolen engines, mechanical repair shops were visited and cellphone vendors were visited.

Fines to the value of R10 500-00 were issued to several cellphone vendors for contravention of sub-sections of the Second-Hand Goods Act, 2009.

Random visits to second-hand dealers are regularly done by the SAPS to ensure responsible purchasing of and dealing in second-hand goods.
