PARLIAMNT TO CALL 26 WITNESSES IN PROBE INTO SOUTH AFRICAN BROADCASTER’S BOARD

CAPE TOWN, — Eight of the 26 witnesses who will be testifying in a parliamentary inquiry into the fitness of members of the board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to hold office have been contacted by parliament’s legal advisers.

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for Communications, Humfrey Maxegwana, said here over the weekend that the witnesses were expected to receive formal notices between Monday and Friday before the start of the inquiry in November.

Maxegwana added that while 26 witnesses had been identified, not all of them would be called to testify at the inquiry. He said the committee would decide who to call to testify.

Meanwhile, notices would also be served to the three remaining board members as well as the other board members who have resigned to testify.

The Board’s Deputy Chairperson, Leah Khumalo, was the latest board member to resign and her resignation was accepted by President Jacob Zuma with immediate effect last week.
