Police apprehend fourth suspect linked to the murder of Thohoyandou lawyer

POLOKWANE – A team of investigators assigned to probe the murder of late Mr Mbambadzeni James Manwadu (46), a prominent attorney attached to the Legal Aid South Africa in Thohoyandou, has made a breakthrough in arresting the deceased’s wife after positively linking her to the incident.

Police had initially arrested three suspects in connection with the murder, bringing the arrests to four in total.

The 43-year-old suspect was traced and arrested last night, 17 January 2023 in Tshakuma village under Vhembe District by members of Vhembe Trio Crimes Task Team

Manwadu was gunned down in front of his home in Maniini Block K on Sunday night, 16 January 2022 at about 20:30. He arrived home on the night of the incident, and as he was getting out of his motor vehicle to open the gate, he was reportedly approached by two suspects, who shot him several times.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has applauded the team for the excellent work.

Zwidofelangani Manwadu, who is the wife of the deceased, has appeared in Thohoyandou Magistrate Court today, facing charges of murder. She was remanded in custody until 03 February 2023 for legal representation. The other three suspects will appear in court on Friday 20 January 2023.
