Police arrest 11 people for public violence

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has strongly condemned the acts of public violence which are still taking place in some parts of the province.

This condemnation follows the arrest of eleven (11) suspects for public violence along the N11 road near Ivanplats Mine outside Mokopane. The arrested suspects include seven (07) women and four (04) men aged between 20 and 48.

These arrests emanated from a violent protest which erupted in the area where a Volkswagen Polo vehicle and a TLB were burned to ashes. One motor vehicle and a towing truck were smashed with stones. The driver of the burnt motor vehicle was admitted in hospital with burn wounds and the TLB driver escaped unharmed.

Members of the community are warned to refrain from violent acts but to settle their differences in a peaceful manner. Those who are still continuing participating in this irresponsible activities, will be dealt with harshly and without compromise, concluded General Ledwaba.
