Police arrested five suspects during a business robbery in Brakpan

BRAKPAN – Members of the Crime Prevention Unit in Brakpan arrested five suspects, after a 35-year-old man was robbed at his tuck shop.

One of the males who pointed the teller with a firearm, whilst another male was in possession of a firearm, started ransacking the shop and demanding cash. The rest of the other suspects entered. The suspects took: airtime, deodorants, cool drinks, cash, & cigarettes worth R5000, and fled off in a silver grey Audi.

The suspects’ vehicle was spotted around Brakpan North. Police tried stopping the vehicle but it sped off, so the police gave chase until in Benoni at McAlpine Street, where the vehicle came to a halt.

During the arrest at approximately 14:00 today, police discovered a police appointment certificate which the ID photo was replaced with one of the suspects own ID photo. All items that were robbed were found, which included the two firearms and ammunition. The vehicle which was used, was tested negative, belonged to one of the suspect’s father.

The suspects aged between 30 and 40 are due to appear at the Brakpan Magistrates’ Court, for business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and impersonating a police officer.

The suspects are still being profiled as they are suspected to be involved in other serious and violent crimes.

Station Commander Brigadier Fredel Jonck commended the members for work well done and urged the community to continue reporting crimes.
