Police clean up central in Port Elizabeth

PORT ELIZABETH – A multi-disciplinary crime operation held on Friday evening in central yielded positive results. The operation headed by SAPS Humewood with the support of various police specialised units, the SANDF, security companies and the metro police infiltrated the central area with special focus on drugs and firearms.
The crime prevention operation started at 18:00 on Friday, 18 September 2020, and concluded in the early hours of Saturday morning, 19 September 2020. Several search warrants were executed at suspected drug dealers’ flats in the area. Two people were arrested for possession of cocaine and will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday, 21 September 2020. During the crime blitz, the following drugs were confiscated: khat, heroine, tik, mandrax, tik bulbs, dagga and some alcohol. Police also took possession of two laptops, cash, measuring scales, knifes, a cellphone and syringes. The estimated value of the drugs seized is between R15 000 – R20 000.
Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Tembisile Patekile expressed his appreciation to the integrated operational teams for their efforts to rid the central part of Port Elizabeth of illicit drug trading. “These operations will continue until these criminals are removed from the area. Illegal drugs defeat the journey to a safer and drug free society therefore the continuous and positive collaboration of law enforcement agencies and the community must be enforced to root out this illegal trade,” added Maj Gen Patekile.
