Police host meeting with tavern owners ahead of the festive season

East London: East London Station Commander, Brigadier Mxolisi Mqotyana, Crime Prevention Cluster Co-ordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Errol Francis and East London Social Crime Prevention Head, Captain Nxafani, CPO, Sector Commanders are gathering today at the Senate Hall in East London.

The purpose of the meeting is to remind the tavern owners on various compliance matters especially opening and closing times that must be adhered to. The Station Commander also sensitized the tavern owners about the dangers of allowing dangerous weapons at their premises as it often leads to contact crimes, drinking in public and loud music. “Most of crimes that is taking place is liquor related, we need to work hand in gloves so as to avoid and prevent crime” the East London Station Commander, Brigadier Mxolisi Mqotyana said.

The Station Commander also stressed the importance of liquor regulations that tavern owners need to comply with.
