Police in Gqeberha confiscate mandrax and tablets and seize firearms in separate incidents

EASTERN CAPE – Mandrax tablets worth R47 750 was confiscated by Anti-Gang Unit members in Algoa Park last night, 12 April 2021.

It is alleged that at about 22:40, members executed a search warrant at a house in Cudham Place. A total of 955 Mandrax tablets was found in the house. An enquiry docket was opened for further investigated. No arrest was made.

In an intelligence driven operation conducted during the early hours of this morning, 13 April 2021, Anti-Gang Unit members arrested a 42-year-old man in Kamesh for illegal possession of a firearm and dealing in drugs after a house in Lapland was searched. A revolver reportedly stolen in Brits in July 2011 was recovered as well as 48 packets of tik were seized.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Uitenhage magistrates’ court today on the respective charges.

In a separate incident on Monday, 12 April 2021 at about 16:30, members from the Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combating Unit (CCU) followed up on information received of a firearm at a spaza shop in the Sherwood squatter camp. A 7.65 pistol was found wrapped in a cloth at the back of the shop. The firearm was reported stolen in Kabega Park in April 2020. An enquiry docket was opened.

Both firearms will be sent for ballistic analysis.
