Police investigate murder and inquest

POTCHEFSTROOM – Makgobistad police are investigating murder and inquest dockets following an incident that took place in Disaneng Village in the early hours of Friday morning, 7 May 2021. This is after a 45-year-old boyfriend allegedly shot and killed his 39-year-old girlfriend in the neighbour’s yard.

According to information available at this stage, reports suggest that the girlfriend’s children from a previous relationship ran to the neighbour for help. The neighbour was opening the door when she saw the boyfriend pointing his girlfriend with a firearm. She tried to intervene and pleaded with the boyfriend not to shoot his girlfriend. However, he allegedly went ahead and fired several shots leading to the death of the girlfriend, whose body was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was later certified dead at the scene by Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) paramedics.

Consequently, the boyfriend’s body was found with a bullet wound in the head a few hours later in a bushy area close to RDP houses in Makgobistad. No foul play is suspected and investigation into the matter continues.

The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner; Major General Dintletse Molefe is saddened by the incident. She urged members of the community with relationship challenges to use the services of professionals like Social Workers, Psychologists and many others for counselling and mediation in order to avoid disturbing gender based violence incidents such as this one.
