Police Make 30 Arrests in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng to Maintain Order

Durban:KwaZulu-Natal Acting National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has praised the efforts of police officers and other law enforcement agencies for their decisive actions in maintaining law and order, especially in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

According to South African Government News Agency, police operations have resulted in the arrest of 30 individuals since last Thursday. Of these arrests, 25 were made in KwaZulu-Natal and five in Gauteng. The charges include public violence, illegal gathering, obstruction, and resisting arrest. Among those detained are alleged ringleaders who reportedly threatened to disrupt football matches in Durban.

Lieutenant General Dimpane emphasized that the South African Police Service (SAPS) is committed to preventing threats and unlawful activities that could jeopardize public safety or disrupt events and communities. She highlighted the determination to uphold the rule of law and act professionally against any threats to public order.

The commendation extends to members of the SAPS, Crime Intelligence, and other law enforcement agencies, led by Provincial Commissioners, for their continued efforts to prevent violence and maintain stability. The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) and Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structures (PROVJOINTS) have been integral in coordinating these intelligence-led responses.

The deployment of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in KwaZulu-Natal is part of broader stabilization efforts in collaboration with the SAPS. Police remain vigilant across all provinces, with incidents in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Limpopo being promptly addressed.

Dimpane reiterated the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and demonstration, warning that intimidation, looting, and violence are criminal acts that will be met with firm police action. She urged communities to cooperate with law enforcement and avoid involvement in activities that threaten safety and stability. The primary focus remains on preventing violence and ensuring the protection of all citizens.
