Police make breakthrough in murder and robbery of prominent Zwide resident

Port Elizabeth: Joint efforts between SAPS Kwazakele Vispol Task Team and the Motherwell Cluster Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit resulted in the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in the murder and robbery of a prominent Zwide resident as well as the attempted murder and vehicle hijacking of two other people on 24 December 2019.

It is alleged that on the mentioned date, at about 17:10, Peter Sample (62) was fatally wounded while he was working in his garage at his house in Higa Street in Zwide. Three unknown males came to the house alleging that he bought stolen speakers. The men left and later returned and shot Sample twice in his head. They left with his TV set.

As they exited the house, a red Bantam bakkie was passing by. The suspects shot at the vehicle, injuring the driver in his left hand and his passenger (wife) in her right foot. They got out of the bakkie and the suspects took the bakkie and left.

On Monday, 30 December 2019, the teams followed up on information on the possible whereabouts of the suspects. The suspects were seen walking in Saba Street, Kwazakele. A foot chase ensued and both suspects aged 26 and 28 years were arrested.

They are detained on charges of murder, house robbery, attempted murder and carjacking. They are expected to appear in court soon.
