Police members ensure that suspects get their day in a court of law

CAPE TOWN – Police members in the Western Cape went the extra mile to ensure that they are in the vicinity when crimes are committed and ensure that the perpetrators will have their day in a court of law.

The vigilance and quick response by members of Delft resulted in the arrest of four suspects for extortion on Thursday, 24 March 2022. The complainant, aged 34, was assisting customers in his shop in Leiden Avenue, when four unknown armed males entered the shop and pointed him with a firearm, demanding protection money. The swift response of the complainant led to the imminent arrest of four suspects aged 25. 31, 40 and 41 respectively on a charge of extortion.

On Thursday, 24 March 2022, Nyanga Crime Prevention Unit members responded to information of armed robbers roaming the streets in Ramaphosa Squatter Camp. When they spotted the suspects, they gave chase and apprehended two suspects. Upon searching the males, they confiscated a 7.65 pistol with ammunition. One male, aged 41, was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Grassy Park police members responded to a complaint of a shooting in progress in the early hours of today. Upon entering 6th Avenue, they stopped and searched an identified address and recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol with no serial number and ammunition. Two males, aged 23 and 25, were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bellville, Athlone and Wynberg Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charges.
