Police members receive honorary medals in Kimberley, Northern Cape

NORTHERN CAPE – The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape Lieutenant General Risimati Shivuri together with the Premier of Northern Cape Dr Zamani Saul and the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport, Safety and Liaison Ms Nontobeko Vilakazi held an honorary Provincial Medal Parade to convey appreciation to police members for their loyal service in the South African Police Service, in 3 Sai Military Base, Kimberley on Thursday, 21 November 2019.

Lt Gen Shivuri cordially welcomed members to this significant event, highlighting essential attributes of being a police officer that selflessly serves the community to ensure a safe and secure South Africa.

Subsequent to the reading of the Code of Conduct by Captain Sergio Kock, police members finally experienced a remarkable moment when they were conferred with their loyal service medals for a period of 10, 20 and 40 years, respectively, by the Provincial Commissioner, Premier and the MEC.

Before introducing the Premier, MEC Vilakazi relayed her message of gratitude to the members for their diligent and illustrious efforts in combating crime.

Conveying an eloquent Keynote Address Dr Zamani Saul expressed that regardless of volatile economic conditions in the country resulting in strict budget constraints the police should continue utilizing all resources at their disposal to fight crime and ensure safe environments. Furthermore encouraged members to self-cultivate and upgrade their academic record. The Premier closed off by applauding the Provincial Commissioner and management for the sterling work they do in the province.

Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major General Japie Riet delivered a vote of thanks, sincerely thanking the members for their loyal service, furthermore applauding the Premier and the MEC for their attendance.

In attendance was also Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Koliswa Otola, Maj Gen Jenny Fourie, Brigadiers, Colonels and other senior officers, and Community Policing Forum board members, chairpersons of unions SAPU and POPCRU.

A phenomenal performance by the SAPS band and drill platoon was an emphatic element for the event.
