Police Minister to attend funeral service of slain Kwandangezi Captain

KWAZULU-NATAL – Police Minister, General Bheki Cele will on Tuesday 22 December 2020, pay his last respect to fallen officer, Captain Thulani Louis Muthunyana Molefe.
The Captain who headed Visible Policing in the Kwandangezi Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal, was gunned down in his vehicle during early hours of the morning of Monday, 14 December 2020 whilst on his way to work.
In an effort to track down the suspects, a 72-hour Activation Plan, comprising of Crime Intelligence, Hawks, National Intervention Unit and K-9 Unit in Pietermaritzburg was activated. The members worked tirelessly around the clock and traced the suspect to the Kwanyuswa location in Botha’s Hill.
The suspect was fatally wounded in a shootout, while police were trying to apprehend him.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased suspect was also sought for six other murder cases including the murder of Sergeant Zulu who was gunned down on 22 May 2020 and an attempted murder of a policeman.
