Police nabbed a man for possession of unlicensed firearms

POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service in Hoedspruit outside Phalaborwa arrested a 32-year-old man, after they found unlicensed firearms as well as ammunition at his house on 12 September 2019 at about 10:00 in the morning.

The arrest was effected during an Intelligence Led Joint Operation, conducted jointly by members of Crime intelligence Unit and Tactical Response Team (TRT), focusing on suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms.

Police seized two pistols and six rounds of ammunition. Further search was conducted around the suspects house and sachets of dagga were also recovered.

The suspect Rohan Duplesis, was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of dagga. He appeared before the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 16 September 2019 and was denied bail. His case was postponed to the 23 September 2019, for further police investigations.

The firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of serious and violent crimes.

Police investigations are still continuing.
