Police officer arrested for corruption

ODENDAALSRUS – A joint operation by the Provincial Anti-Corruption unit, Odendaalsrus Crime Detection unit and Kroonstad LCRC led to the arrest of a 50-year-old Warrant Officer stationed at Odendaalsrus Detectives on the 20 January 2021 at about 13:00.
This after the member approached an accused in a case of driving under the influence, demanding R10 000-00 to ensure the case will “vanish”.
Necessary authority was obtained and the member was arrested after he handed over the original docket to the accused and the accused gave him R5 000-00 (trap money) in return.
The suspect will appear at the Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court on corruption charges on the 22 January 2021.
The community is urged to report any corrupt activities by men and women in blue to the Provincial Anti-Corruption unit on 083 443 7987.
