Police operations during Easter weekend leads to arrests and confiscation of firearms, ammunition and drugs

WESTERN CAPE – Police operations during the Easter weekend led to several arrests and confiscation of drugs, unlicensed firearms and ammunition. On Friday members attached the Delft Crime Prevention Unit on acted on information about an unlicensed firearm, drugs and stolen property at a residence in Lukwart Street, Delft South. The members arrived at the address and seized the items and arrested three suspects.

In a separate incident, police arrested a 24-year-old man during a stop and search that was conducted by Delft Crime Prevention Unit members. The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition, also on Friday.

Meanwhile, last night police from the Provincial Integrated Task Team were alerted to a drug outlet in Kiki Gugulethu. Upon their arrival at the address they found crystal methamphetamine worth a substantial amount and arrested a 62-year-old woman for the possession of drugs.

A 58-year-old man was arrested last night in Graafwater for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after police found a rifle and an assortment of rounds of ammunition at his residence. A R1 rifle fitted with a telescope, night sight and a silencer were also confiscated.

All six suspects are expected to appear in the various magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 06 April 2021.
