Police recover firearms in Lwandle and Khayelitsha

WESTERN CAPE – Provincial Extortion Task Team members received information of a wanted suspect for a Lwandle murder case, who was standing opposite a tavern in Ldzuzo Street.

Upon arrival, the SAPS members found a number of people in the street as well as inside the tavern. After searching the premises for the suspect, the members found a firearm without a serial number and one 0.22 round outside in the tavern’s yard. The circumstances are being investigated and the murder suspect is still being sought.

In an unrelated incident the members were busy with a stop and search patrol on Monday 09 May at round 22:30, when they spotted a suspicious vehicle in Amandla Street in Khayelitsha. Upon searching the occupants, they found a foreign national in possession of a 5.35 mm pistol and ammunition. The 35-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspect are expected to make a court appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrate court on the mentioned charge.
