Police Sergeant who was hailed a heroine, after assisting a women give birth, loses her own child, police family sends condolences

NELSPRUIT – The Police Sergeant who was hailed as a heroine, after she assisted a foreign couple from the Democratic Republic of Congo, to give birth next to the police station, has sadly lost her son yesterday, Monday 03 May 2021. The SAPS family in Mpumalanga, led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Phahla, voiced their heartfelt condolences to Sergeant Itumeleng Motalane and her family for the loss.

Two weeks ago, Sergeant Motalane and Constable Tilane Lebitsa, both stationed at Bethal Police Station, were hailed as heroines after they went beyond the call of duty by assisting a woman to give birth near the police station gate and today she is in grief and unexplainable pain.

Her son, who was the first born out of four children, was admitted at hospital after some complications. He unfortunately lost his battle and passed on yesterday at Ermelo hospital.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the Sergeant and her family in this time of grief. May they find courage and strength to move forward in peace knowing that the SAPS family in Mpumalanga is with them during this trying and hard time. May the soul of her son rest in eternal peace,” General Phahla comforted.
