POPS members are fighting the scourge of drugs in the Province

When Public Order Policing members are not deployed in areas gripped by public unrest, they fight crime and tackle the operational priorities of the province. This was evident today when members of POPS arrested three suspects on drug related charges during three separate interventions.

In Kraaifontein the unit responded to intelligence that dagga is being cultivated at an address in Windsor Park. The house was searched which led to the discovery of dagga products with an estimated street value of at R15 000-00. One suspect, a 44- year-old male was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.

In The Hague in Delft the members conducted a stop and search operation when their attention was drawn to a suspicious individual who made an attempt to evade police. The 19-year-old suspect was pursued and arrested in possession of 12 packets of tik. It is suspected that he has an affiliation with a local gang in the area.

A stop and search operation in Mitchells Plain landed an 18-year-old suspect behind bars after he was caught with ten straws of unga in Merrydale Street Rocklands. He is also linked to a local gang in the area.

All three suspects are expected to make their court appearances in the respective courts once they have been charged.
