Possession of suspected stolen property accused appear in court

POTCHEFSTROOM – Elvis Mhlangu (35); Alex Ngwenya (33); Constantino Savecra (30); Mario Ubbise(43) and Mongeza Vilakazi (31) appeared before the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court today on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property. They were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Wednesday, 15 June 2022.

Their court appearance stems from an incident reported on Wednesday evening, 8 June 2022, after copper cables were allegedly stolen on a farm, near the N14 road in Sannieshof. Subsequent to receiving and operationalising information by members of Klerkskraal and Ventersdorp police stations as well as Flying Squad, the accused’ suspicious BMW vehicle that was towed by another vehicle; a Toyota Avanza, was stopped on the N14 in Klerkskraal, close to the Derby crossing. The vehicles were searched and police found copper cable with an estimated value of R200 000-00 inside the boot of the BMW. The occupants of the vehicles could not give proper account of the cable found in their possession and were arrested on the scene.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, expressed gratitude to the members for their efforts in the fight against the damaging and / or tampering with essential infrastructure.
