Premier Chupu Mathabatha leads World AIDS Day commemoration activities, 1 Dec

The Premier of Limpopo Chupu Mathabatha together with MEC for Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba will interact with the community of Tshikanoshi and surrounding areas in Sekhukhune District to commemorate World Aids Day on 1 December 2015.

World AIDS Day is commemorated each year and provides people with an opportunity to unite in the fight against HIV and TB, show support for people living with HIV and TB and remember those who have demised due to the disease.

Sekhukhune has a highly concentrated mining and farming area thus contributes worryingly to the overall number of people with HIV/AIDS as well as TB in the province and country.

Significant strides have been made in the fight against the disease by launching various campaigns aimed at changing people’s behaviour and encourage the practice of safe sex.

The Limpopo province ensured that 232 506 clients remain on antiretroviral treatment against a target of 220 000 which was set for the past financial year of 2014/15. The number of people who got tested for HIV also increased from 1 317 590 in 2013/14 to 1 535 403 during the year 2014/15.

The following services will be provided to the community:

Screening for none communicable diseases like blood pressure checks and screening for glucose levels
