President Ramaphosa to address the SALGA National Members Assembly

President Cyril Ramaphosa will tomorrow, Tuesday, 11 December 2018, deliver the keynote address at the South African Local Government Association’s (SALGA) National Members Assembly (NMA) to be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.

The NMA is a SALGA constitutional body and is convened twice between national conferences. The gathering is attended by delegates from all municipalities, provincial and national government.

Stakeholders from international organisations including the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and other sister organisations from the African continent attend the Assembly.

The Assembly will among other things reflect on progress made since the local government elections of August 2016.

The Assembly will also look at key challenges facing local government, the unintended impact of policies and legislation on the performance of municipalities, and issues in governance and financial management challenges.

Delegates will deliberate factors that erode public confidence in the local sphere of government as well as by measures to enforce consequences and accountability.

The Assembly is also a showcase for service delivery innovations and best practices.
