President Zuma appoints Intergovernmental Committee on Disaster Management

President Jacob Zuma has in terms of section 4 of the Disaster Management Act, 2002, established the Intergovernmental Committee on Disaster Management (ICDM) comprising relevant Cabinet Members and provincial Members of Executive Councils involved in disaster management as well as members of municipal Councils selected by the South African Local Government Association.

The ICDM will advise and make recommendations to Cabinet with regard to issues relating to disaster management and on the establishment of a national framework for disaster management aimed at ensuring, amongst others, an integrated and uniform approach to disaster management in South Africa by all national, provincial and municipal organs of state, statutory functionaries, non-governmental institutions involved in disaster management, the private sector, communities and individuals.

The Intergovernmental Committee on Disaster Management is comprised of the following:

1. Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr David van Rooyen as Chairperson

2. Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr Senzeni Zokwana

3. Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga

4. Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula

5. Minister of Energy, Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson

6. Minister of Environmental Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa

7. Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan

8. Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi

9. Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande

10. Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Malusi Gigaba

11. Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu

12. Minister International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane

13. Minister of Mineral Resources, Mr Mosebenzi Zwane

14. Minister of Police, Mr Nathi Nhleko

15. Minister in the Presidency for Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Jeff Radebe

16. Minister of Public Works, Mr Thulas Nxesi

17. Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti

18. Minister of Social Development, Ms Bathabile Dlamini

19. Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, and

20. Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane

21. All MECs responsible for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from all Provinces as selected by Premiers

22. Two Members of Municipal Councils selected by South African Local Government Association.
