His Excellency President Jacob Zuma has this evening arrived in Botswana, ahead of the Extra-Ordinary Summit of the SADC Double Troika scheduled to be held in Gaborone, on 28 June 2016.

It is anticipated that the Extra-Ordinary Summit will consider the political and security situation in the SADC region, paying particular attention to the situation in the Kingdom of Lesotho.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will also attend the Summit in his capacity as the SADC-appointed Facilitator on Lesotho.

South Africa is participating in the meeting in its capacity as the outgoing Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation. The Double Troika is made up of the following countries: Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa and Tanzania.

The President is accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane; Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula; and State Security David Mahlobo.
