President Jacob Zuma has today extended good wishes to all the Hindu, Tamil, Gujerati and other communities who celebrate Diwali or Deepavali, as it is also known.

Diwali honours the triumph of light over darkness, of good over evil, of knowledge and wisdom over ignorance and thoughtlessness.

On this holy day, devotees around the country and across the world will light lamps that symbolise the victory of light over darkness.

“May the divine light shower you with peace, prosperity, happiness, success and fulfillment as you celebrate this annual occasion,” said President Zuma.

The President has further urged the devotees to recommitment to making South Africa a better place for all.
