Pretoria – The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has condemned the call by the defence force union that President Jacob Zuma be removed as Commander-in-Chief of South Africa’s armed forces.
At the weekend, the South African National Defence Union (SANDU) called on the Commander-in-Chief to be removed from his post and the concerned parliamentary members to resign after last week’s Constitutional Court ruling on the Nkandla matter.
On Monday, the SANDF said its members will remain above what it called “petty party politics” and refused to be drawn into politics.
“The SANDF calls on individuals and/or organisations, and SANDU in particular, not to incite members of the SANDF, use members of the SANDF to advance or pursue their political ambitions or to be opportunistic and try to gain popularity by using members of the SANDF.”
The SANDF said it will view such conducts as acts of provocation, which it will not tolerate.
SANDF assured all South Africans that it is a non-partisan institution that is established and managed in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. –
