Provincial Commissioner condemns fatal shooting of a woman by a police official

KIMBERLEY – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old woman by a police Sergeant aged 37.
It is alleged this morning at about 01:00, the police Sergeant had an argument with his alleged girlfriend at Lowryville in Colesberg. It is alleged the girlfriend was fatally shot and was certified dead by Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene. It is alleged the suspect turned the gun on himself. The suspect survived and has been admitted in Hospital under police guard. The motive has not been established as yet and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been notified in order to conduct their independent investigations.
The Provincial Commissioner has reminded police officials who might be having relationship challenges to seek assistance from the SAPS Employee, Health and Wellness offices. The Employee, Health and Wellness offices comprise of Social Workers, Psychologists and Chaplains (Pastors).
Meanwhile the police at Sunrise outside De Aar have arrested a 31-year-old woman in connection with the murder of her mother. The incident was reportedly committed at Kareeville, Sunrise last night at about 19:30. The victim was rushed to the local Hospital for treatment and unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at about 04:00 this morning. The suspect is expected to appear before the local Magistrates court soon pending further police investigations.
The motive has not yet been established and the Provincial Commissioner has also appealed to members of the community to seek help from professionals rather than resorting to violence.
