Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape meets and greets Provincial staff

WESTERN CAPE – Newly appointed Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape police, Lt Gen Yolisa Matakata addresses management and staff at the provincial office during a meet and greet gathering this morning.

Deputy National Commissioner, Lt Gen Mfazi welcomed Lt Gen Matakata to the province. He has been an Acting Provincial Commissioner for the past four months. Lt Gen Mfazi said: Good colleagues, this is the General that will be designing the footprint for this province. Even though she has done the greatest part of her policing here, it becomes vital that you all support her the same way you have done to me”. He added that the wisdom she needs in order to excell during her term is the one she will be getting from the same people that she is leading.

In her brief address, Lt Gen Matakata took off by appreciating the work done by her predecessor in keeping the ship stable and steering it in the right direction.

“Let me indicate that the first exercise that I deem as vital is to have engagements with different components so I can listen and understand what contribution do they expect us as management to have in the pursuit of the greater policing vision. I might be the captain of this ship but every crew member has a responsibility to play in keeping it on the course.”

She conclude her address by encouraging members not to shun from expressing their different opinions, as long as they are backed by the organization’s objectives.
