THOHOYANDOU – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Deputy Provincial Commissioners Major General Jan Scheepers responsible for policing, Major General Samuel Manala responsible for Crime Detection, the District Commissioner of Vhembe District Major General Eddie Van der Walt and all Station Commanders of police stations in the Vhembe District today welcomed three hundred and seventy five (375) new Constables that were allocated to the Vhembe District. The new members are part of the 848 new Constables allocated to the Limpopo Province. This allocation is part of Project 10 000 which is aimed at putting more boots on the ground to fight crime.
The other new Constables were allocated to the Districts of Capricorn, Mopani, Sekhukhune and Waterburg.
Addressing the new members who had paraded at the parking area of Thavhani mall in Thohoyandou, the Provincial Commissioner emphasized on the importance of staying away from corrupt practices which often cause reputational damage to the SAPS. The General continued to assert that involvement in corruption is also the quickest way of getting out of the Police Service.
“As you commence with your new journey, you will be interacting with different characters of persons, both internally and externally. Internally you will meet old members who must be your mentors as you navigate through your journey. Don’t follow bad tendencies that could lead you astray. Externally you will meet some of the community members who would want to bribe or corrupt you not to do your work. You have the obligation to reject such tendencies and actually take steps against them,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
The Provincial Commissioner concluded her address by telling the new Constables to remain focused and contributed to endeavours to reduce crime during this Festive Season.
The constables have been allocated to the twenty police stations in the Vhembe District, with Thohoyandou getting more members due to the crime weight of the station.
