Provincial Commissioner welcomes life imprisonment sentences

POTCHEFSTROOM – The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed the life imprisonment sentence recently handed down 36-year-old accused by the Schweizer-Reneke Regional Court.
The sentence was imposed to the accused for raping a minor and consequent to good investigative work by the Wolmaransstad Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences Unit (FCS). The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).
The court heard that the accused, raped his former girlfriend’s daughter, then aged 11, on Sunday, 31 December 2017 in Ipelegeng. The little girl was asleep in her bed, when the accused woke her up and eventually raped her. She reported the incident to her mother at about 20:00, who found the accused still asleep in her daughter’s bed. The matter was reported to the police, who arrested him on the same night.
Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the two detectives, Sgt Abram Hlatswayo and Sgt Mpho Mokgosi for their sterling job which ensured that a merciless rapist gets a hefty sentence.
