The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape continues to engage her stakeholders as part of building relationships with all our external stakeholders in the effort to prevention of crime in the province.

Today, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga and Eastern Cape SAPS management met with Agri Eastern Cape, represented by Mr Alfonso Van Niekerk at the Provincial Office in Zwelitsha.

The session engaged on a series of concerns from farmers relating to the prevention of stock theft and crime prevention initiatives in the rural and farmers communities.

Discussions in regard to the investigation of dockets on agricultural matters and the outcomes of case dockets were also on the agenda points.

The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Andre Swart engaged the delegation on the challenges encountered, initiatives and the resolutions taken in the past to create awareness. Policing should be a point on the agenda during all sector farmers meetings he emphasized.

Each farm should have a farmers profile to assist the police and should be provided with each police visit, Major General Swart said. Mr Van Niekerk indicated that several successes are achieved with the assistance camera systems in the province, especially with regard to theft of mohair and wool incidents.

Concluding the meeting, Lieutenant General Ntshinga said, “We appreciate the engagement and partnership which will contribute to the Safer District Model concept launched by the President in the Province. We need to work in collaboration and put everything in one basket if we want to achieve the objectives of the organisation.”

Farm attacks are a priority in the country and if we want to curb this successfully we need farmers to work together SAPS and give full cooperation” she added.
