Punzana community outreach crime awareness campaign

Punzana: The South African Police Service in joint collaboration with the Department of Safety and Liaison together with other stakeholders conducted a crime awareness campaign today at Qhurhu Village outside King Williams Town.

More than two hundred community members attended the event. They were given an opportunity to ask questions to the stakeholders. The Acting Station Commander, Warrant Officer Mema addressed various crime concerns. He also thanked the community members for working hand in glove with the police in the fight against crime. The community members indicated their satisfaction with the service rendered by Punzana SAPS. Members of the community reaffirmed their commitment in working with Police to ensure that all people are safe and feel safe. All external stakeholders assisted in answering the questions that the community wanted some clarity on.

The SAPS Stock Theft Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Noqoko sensitized the community about Stock Theft crimes and how to prevent crimes. He encouraged them to brand their stock according to the Animal Identification Act. Sergeant Thenjiwe Jantjies from King William’s Town Family, Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit also educated the community about contact crimes and the reporting and investigative process. The community welcomed the informative interactive session.

The event was a success and the Ward Committee Chairperson Mr Go thanked the community and the stakeholders for attending and for sharing information with Punzana community.
