Quick police response leads to the arrest of robbery suspects and recovery of stolen money

Three suspects have been arrested and an undisclosed amount of money recovered following a business robbery that took place in Vanderbijlpark yesterday. The suspects aged between 31 and 37 will be appearing at Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court tomorrow facing charges of business robbery, possession of suspected stolen vehicle, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

It is alleged that two men entered the Kotwals Motor Spares yesterday at approximately 15:00 and demanded cash from the shop owner at gunpoint. The victim’s son arrived while the robbery was still in progress and was also robbed. Two more suspects held other employees at gunpoint.

After undisclosed amount of cash and cellular phones were taken from the victims, the suspects fled the scene using two mini coopers.

Police were informed and immediately conducted a search and arrested three suspects in Vanderbijlpark. Police confiscated an unlicensed firearm and ammunition believed to have been used in the commission of the robbery. Police also recovered a suspected stolen vehicle and large amount of cash and cellular phones suspected to have been taken from the victims. The search is continuing for suspects that are still at large.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the police from Vanderbijlpark for acting swiftly and arresting the suspects immediately after they have committed a robbery. The police will not rest until all the suspects are apprehended and brought to book.
