Rape suspect arrested, fast asleep

EASTERN CAPE – Msobomvu police arrested a 32-year-old man for alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman. It is alleged that the victim had visited her friend on Sunday, 15 March 2020 at about 19:00 at Magalakangqa Village, Butterworth.

While she was on her way to her friend, she was chased by the suspect who was armed with a knife. The suspect dragged the victim to his home where the alleged rape took place.

The suspect fell asleep after raping the victim. The victim got a chance to escape and reported the rape at Msobomvu Police Station. The police acted swiftly as they went with the victim to the homestead of the suspect. The suspect was found in deep slumber and he was arrested. The suspect is appearing before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court today, 17 March 2020 on a rape charge
