Rapist gets 10 year jail sentence

KIMBERLEY – On 24 February 2021, Kathu Regional Court sentenced Obakeng Mocumi to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 51-year-old woman and three years for assault GBH.
The rape occurred on 05 January 2019 at Deben dumping site. Mocumi lured the victim to the dumping site under the pretence that there are old clothes to be collected. He raped the victim at knifepoint. He was arrested and released on bail.
While on bail he assaulted a 53-year-old woman at her house. He was rearrested on 12 August 2019 and has been in custody until the sentencing. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for rape and three years for assault GBH.
The Provincial Management in Northern Cape SAPS welcomed the sentence and applauded the investigating officers, Sergeant Maletsatsi Smouse and Constable Pako Bele for a thorough investigation that led to the conviction.
