POTCHEFSTROOM –A 31-year-old man appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court today in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old boy. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday, 22 September 2020.
The suspect’s court appearance emanated from his arrest on Sunday, 13 September 2020, by Makau Police. According to reports received, the victim arrived home late on Friday night, 11 September 2020. The mother, who was apparently not pleased about him coming late, asked him where he was coming from. The victim allegedly confided in his mother and that he was at the suspect’s house. Moreover, the victim told his mother that the suspect has been raping him since December 2019 and threatened him with death in case he tells anyone about the incident. The mother reported the matter to the police.
In another separate incident a 34-year old man appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 September 2020, for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl in Mooinooi on Saturday, 12 September 2020.
According to information at our disposal, the victim’s father and mother left the four-year-old with the suspect, who is known to the family, as they went to drop off their nephew who was visiting them. On return, the parents found the victim sitting with the suspect drinking tea. It is alleged that the little girl then told her mother what happened. The child was taken to the clinic where rape was confirmed. The police were then alerted and the suspect was arrested at his residential place on Sunday, 13 September 2020. He appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court yesterday, and was remanded in custody until his second court appearance on Tuesday, 29 September 2020.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the Brits Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for the arrest. He said that the police will not hesitate to make sure that those who perpetrate violence against women and children are brought to book to face the full might of the Law.
