Rapist sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 16-year-old boy

NORTHERN CAPE – Edmund Farao (37), has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Fraseburg Regional Court on Wednesday, 10 March 2021, for raping a 16-years-old boy

Edmund raped the boy in September 2018. On the day of the incident, the boy together with his friend, had visited Edmund at his house in Fraseburg, and while they were at his house he sent the victim’s friend to the tuckshop to buy cigarettes. The victim remained behind with Edmund and in the process he raped him. Edmund threatened to kill the victim should he tell anyone about the rape incident. Three weeks later the victim informed his sister that Edmund had raped him. Edmund was arrested and brought before court. During the trial it emerged that Edmund had tested HIV positive in the year 2013. He raped the victim knowing that he is HIV positive. An additional count of attempted murder was added to count of rape. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm, and his name to be recorded in the sex offenders register.

The Northern Cape Police Management applauded the investigating officer, Sergeant Jaco Swartz for his excellent investigative work. The National Prosecuting Authority and Department of Justice were praised for removing Edmund permanently from society, by sentencing him to life imprisonment.
