Relative arrested for alleged rape of a minor

EASTERN CAPE – Kei Bridge Police arrested a 23-year-old man for alleged rape of his relative aged 13. It is alleged that the victim was taken to a local clinic by her grandmother after the grandmother suspected her granddaughter was pregnant. The nurses at the clinic tested the victim and it was discovered that she was six months pregnant.

When the victim was questioned, she implicated her cousin brother of raping her between 2018 and 2019. The alleged rape took place at KwaDlephu Village near Kei Bridge, Butterworth. The suspect was traced and arrested on Thursday, 01 August 2019. The suspect will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 05 August 2019 on a rape charge.

Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze condemned the alleged rape especially by the person who was supposed to protect the victim as he is related to him. He congratulated the Kei Bridge Police for their swift response in arresting the suspect.
