Road Closures Announced in Bloemfontein for Freedom Day Celebrations

Bloemfontein: Residents of Bloemfontein have been urged to use alternative routes as roads surrounding the Dr Rantlai Petrus Molemela Stadium will be temporarily closed for the Freedom Day celebrations on Monday. The stadium, located in the Free State, will host the National Freedom Day commemoration, which will be addressed by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has announced specific road closures around the stadium. These include the intersections of Khampepe and Thakalekoala Streets, Goduka and Thakalekoala Streets, Thulo and Tsekeletsa Streets, Kamohi and Tsekeletsa Streets, Nkolonyane and Mokoloko Streets, and Khampepe and Mokoloko Streets. Access to the stadium precinct will be controlled through checkpoints at various intersections, ensuring smooth management of the event.

The event organizers have also outlined a list of prohibited items to ensure safety and order during the commemoration. Firearms, except those carried by authorized personnel, and weapons of any kind will not be permitted. Additionally, children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult, and alcohol, glass containers, and breakable bottles are prohibited. Other restricted items include patio/garden umbrellas, pets (except registered service animals), political regalia, illegal substances, unmanned aerial devices, braai stands, cooler boxes, and unauthorised vendors. Confiscated items will not be returned, and no compensation will be provided.

The Freedom Day commemoration is set to begin at 10 am on Monday, marking the 32nd anniversary of South Africa's first democratic elections held on 27 April 1994.
