Robber sentenced to an effective 29 years imprisonment – Addo

KING WILLIAM’S TOWN- The Regional Court in Port Elizabeth sentenced 29-year-old Sipho Mayinje on Thursday, 23 February 2017 to 29 years behind bars. The sentencing follows the arrest of Mayinje and two other accused, on 1 November 2014 at about 04:30 in Motherwell, following a house robbery that occurred on 30 October 2014 at 23:35 in Addo. The victims, both in their 70’s were attacked allegedly by the three suspects at their house in Lion Village Sunlands, Addo and the suspects fled with the victims vehicle and jewellery. Thorough investigations led the Addo SAPS members to an address in Motherwell and the three suspects were apprehended on 1 November 2014 and the stolen vehicle was recovered on 4 November 2014 also in Motherwell.

The Port Elizabeth Regional Court found Sipho Mayinje guilty and sentenced him on Thursday, 23 February 2017 as follows: Count one – Housebreaking with the intent to rob – seven years imprisonment effectively. Count two – House robbery – sentenced to 7 years imprisonment. Count three – kidnapping – 15 years imprisonment. The sentencing will not run concurrently. The second accused, Thanduxolo Cikolo (28) passed away in prison prior to the sentencing and the charges against the third accused were withdrawn.
