Robbery suspects bust by police along borderline

DURBAN �Emanguzi police arrested three suspects aged between 26 and 41 and seized a firearm with four rounds of ammunition. Police were searching for the suspects who were involved in a business robbery at Mshudu Reserve, arrested the three men at Ekuthukuzeni Reserve. A 41-year-old suspect was found at his residence with a pistol in his possession. The firearm had its serial number filed off. Two suspects were found in a bakkie that was allegedly used during the robbery.

It is alleged that on 2 August 2019, the business woman was accosted by the suspects while she was on the way to deposit the proceeds from her shop. She was allegedly held at gunpoint by the suspects and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects were also armed with knives. A case of robbery was opened at Emanguzi police station for investigation.

The arrested suspects will be charged for robbery and the 41-year-old will also face an additional charge for possession of an unlicensed firearm. They will appear in the KwaNgwanase Magistrates Court soon.

Police operations along the border also resulted in the arrest of three suspects for violations of the immigration act and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Police also recovered a vehicle that was concealed in the forest awaiting to taken across the border. Preliminary investigations revealed that the sedan was stolen in the Mpumalanga Province.
